What is Attendance Allowance?

Attendance Allowance is a benefit you can claim if you require help with personal care. Attendance Allowance is not dependant on your National Insurance contributions.

It is not means tested and is free of tax. To qualify you need to be over 65 and require help in performing a number of Activities of Daily Living (ADL's); for instance bathing, dressing, washing, eating, etc. Attendance Allowance is paid at two levels and the rate you would claim would be dependant on whether the help you need is for 12 or 24 hours each day.

The lower rate for 12 hour care is £47.10 per week and the higher rate for 24 hour care is £70.35 per week.
